The extension of one’s mind through touch is a powerful non-verbal message of affection, security, love, friendship, and assurance. The human hand delivers a powerful message and many times the energy of this extremity is used in a manner inconsistent of what it was designed for. Indeed, this world would be a much better place without the grasps that wounds or hurt, but if we focused our attention on malice; we would never see how goodness overshadows malevolence.

Reaching into someone’s personal space happens every day with hugs, kisses, and handshakes. The obvious can be habitual. Over and above these affections are the sometimes subconscious effort that projects a reaction that speaks more than an emotion that could ever be expressed verbally. For those that have been deeply in love, reaching out and lightly brushing your partners shoulder, arm, or face reveals an intimacy that can only be shared through the eyes of understanding; reflected in a cherished moment that will be forever embedded into the chambers of the heart.

Surely, writing in a card or sending a dozen roses is a gesture of romance. For some, a car, diamond earrings, or even buying real estate for the one they love. However, material wealth is finite. For those who reverence it will never find where their spring of worth comes from. Do we cherish all the things money can buy or priceless expressions worth more than gold? Read the headlines. Those who had it all had nothing or what they gave to life was placed into empty jars of deception rather than a fertile place that nourishes hearts that reciprocates joy. There is always a risk that no return will take place in relationships because trust cannot be fabricated, it must be real. The bigger diamond or perfect wedding will not guarantee longevity. It only has a symbolic limitation of the present and no measure of the future.

We always have been conditioned to be our best, strive for more, achieve greatness, and reach for the stars. Instead of reaching for personal ambitions that yearns for perceptible gains that could take a lifetime, we should look at gifts in front of us and acquire real wealth with the power of touch. The investment toward an almost effortless invitation that generates an immediate response pays unfaltering dividends. Too often we are captivated by quantification that falsifies gratification where that person within our personal space should have more meaning or value than anything money could buy. Life’s purpose is not exclusive to accumulation of assets. I too have had the misguidance of forgetting where my time should be spent. Now, after hard lessons, the opportunity to express a gesture beyond rings or elements from this earth, I have a choice to give the most pleasing message that resonates with a silence that could only be heard by the heart. A deliberate touch delicate enough to break down the barriers when nothing should be said or even heard.
